Really Simple Syndication (RSS)

Really Simple Syndication, or RSS, is a system easily providing automatic information on a site's updates via users' RSS readers, or via certain Web browsers or email programs. For instance, add one of the Troynovant RSS feeds to the bookmark list in your browser (as in iCab for Macintosh), and changes to that Troynovant index will be automatically reflected in your browser window whenever you open that bookmark.

Our RSS feeds are Recent Updates RSS (this link opens in a new window) and New Items RSS (this link opens in a new window). These are push-down stacks: most-recent entries are at the top.

These are not pipelines of full entries at Troynovant but summary feeds, basically lists of annotated links, corresponding to the two corresponding index pages (see below) with generally also short excerpts or summaries.

Note that when a Troynovant page's link is clicked from within one of our RSS feeds, that page opens standalone for convenience in bookmarking, sharing, etc. To re-enter our frameset for all the navigational aids, simply click on one of the Troynovant main links found at the bottom of each page.

The website default RSS, as seen in the browser's menu bar, is for Recent Updates. For the New Items RSS, choose this link: New Items RSS, or go to the New Items index and click on the New Items RSS link there.

Troynovant index bookmarks

To open any Troynovant page (review, essay, index, or whatever) as a standalone for separate bookmarking, Right-Click any link to it. The standalone URL then may be saved, emailed, or otherwise shared. Our liveliest indexes are Recent Updates (this link opens in a new window) and New Items (this link opens in a new window). These are push-down stacks: most-recent entries are at the top. You may need to reload / refresh these page in your browser to see the latest entries.

'Recent' versus 'New' at Troynovant

Recent Updates is a superset of New Items, including all new reviews, essays, and so forth; plus all updates to existing items such as new illustrations, significant changes to the text, added or repointed external links.

New Items is a subset of Recent Updates, listing only new reviews, essays, and so forth.

[The King of Navarre's park.]

Holofernes (to Nathaniel & Dull):

This is a gift that I have, simple, simple — a foolish extravagant spirit, full of forms, figures, shapes, objects, ideas, apprehensions, motions, revolutions. These are begot in the ventricle of memory, nourished in the womb of pia mater, and delivered upon the mellowing of occasion. But the gift is good in those in whom it is acute, and I am thankful for it.

William Shakespeare
Love's Labour's Lost, 4.2.61-66

[pia mater: "membrane surrounding the brain"]
