Note that works involving only or mostly animal, mental, or temporal transport, or forays afoot, generally are not listed here. Vehicular transport suffuses modern culture from oxcarts and chariots, through the Age of Sail and the Age of Steam. Many works of fiction are more or less dependent on transport to keep the plot moving, as are history and biography to shunt the people into or between adventures: thus our inclusion threshold must be rather arbitrary.
